Use our car data in AI assistants
Ask an AI assistant about a car and it can answer from our data rather than guessing: MOT reliability from DVSA test results, official specs, clean air zone rules, and car tax and company car tax worked out with the same calculators as this site. It's free, there's no sign-in, and it never looks up number plates.
Connect it
In any assistant that supports custom connectors (remote MCP servers), add a connector with this URL:
https://carcomparison.co.uk/mcp
It uses the Model Context Protocol over HTTP and needs no authentication. Developers can call it directly: POST JSON-RPC requests (initialize, tools/list, tools/call) to the same URL.
What it can answer
Car reliability from MOT data
car_reliabilityHow reliable a UK car model is, from DVSA MOT test results adjusted for age and mileage: a reliability score (100 = average), its rating, MOT failure rate, rank overall and in its class, and the most common MOT failures. Use for questions like 'Is the Ford Focus reliable?'.
Try: “Is the Nissan Qashqai reliable?”
Most (or least) reliable cars
most_reliable_carsThe most reliable used cars in the UK from MOT data, overall or within a class (e.g. small SUVs, superminis), best first. Set least to true for the least reliable.
Try: “Which small SUVs have the best MOT record?”
Car specs and prices
car_specsKey facts for the current generation of a UK car model: price range, boot space, size, seats, power, 0-62mph and Euro NCAP rating, from manufacturer and official sources.
Try: “How big is the boot on a Skoda Octavia?”
ULEZ and clean air zone check
clean_air_zone_checkWhether a car is likely to meet London ULEZ and UK clean air / low emission zone standards (petrol Euro 4, diesel Euro 6), from its fuel and first registration date or Euro standard, and what each zone charges a non-compliant private car.
Try: “Will my 2014 diesel pay the ULEZ?”
UK car tax (VED)
car_taxAnnual UK car tax (Vehicle Excise Duty) for a car at 2026/27 rates, from its first registration date, fuel, CO2 emissions, list price and engine size. Includes the first-year rate for new cars and the expensive car supplement.
Try: “How much is car tax on a 2019 petrol with 128g/km CO2 and a £28,000 list price?”
Company car tax (BIK)
company_car_taxUK company car benefit-in-kind tax: the appropriate percentage, taxable benefit and yearly tax for a company car, for any tax year from 2025/26 to 2030/31, from its list price, CO2 and electric range.
Try: “What's the company car tax on a £45,000 electric car for a higher-rate taxpayer?”
Using the answers
Every answer links to the page it comes from. The MOT data is DVSA's, under the Open Government Licence; see data sources and how the reliability score works. Tax answers use the rates on our calculators, which we check against GOV.UK and update after each Budget.
