This policy explains what we collect when you use CarComparison and why.

Number plate lookups

We send the number plate you enter to the DVSA to fetch vehicle records. We don't link lookups to you.

Reminders

If you sign up for reminders, we store your email address, the number plate and the dates you want reminding about. We use them only to send the reminders you asked for. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the reminder.

My Garage

If you use My Garage, we store your email address, the vehicles you add (number plate, make and model, and any nickname) and the MOT, tax, insurance and service dates. We use them to show your garage and send your reminders. When you sign in we set one essential cookie that keeps you signed in for 30 days; it isn't used for anything else. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from the account section of My Garage.

Fuel price alerts

If you set up a fuel price alert, we store your email address, postcode, fuel and target price to send the alerts you asked for. Every alert email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the alert.

Measuring use of the site

We run our own analytics, without cookies or anything stored on your device. When you open a page, your browser tells us the page, the site that linked to it, your screen width and whether you interact with the page. To count visitors without identifying anyone, we combine your IP address and browser type with a random value that changes every day, and keep only a one-way hash of the result; the daily value is deleted after two days, so visits can't be linked across days or traced back to you. We use this to see how many people visit, how they find us and which pages lead to sign-ups, and we delete it after about 13 months. We also keep daily totals of a few actions (for example, how many reminders were set up). We may also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies either. None of this identifies you or your number plate.

Advertising and cookies

We show ads from Google and partners, which may use cookies to personalise ads where you consent. You can change your choices at any time using the privacy settings link.
